5-27-2013 Pat and I did a run through the bridge to bridge section of Eagle River on Memorial Day. We had a beautiful, hot day and it was nice to be on the water, but there wasn't much excitement to this section of river at this water level until the end. The wave at the clay cliffs would hold a boat but nothing to get any adrenalin pumping. I did end up in the water as I was trying to reverse carve my boat to stay on the wave. I leaned just a little too far and had to swim to shore. Pat ran both of our boats through Campground Rapid, BIG log jam! The biggest log jam I have seen, maybe anywhere, but definitely the biggest on Eagle River. There was room on both the left side and the right side you just have to make SURE you go to one side or the other and not down the middle. Deathly consequences for a mistake. Lots of people on the water working out winter's kinks.
5-29-2013 Another trip down the bridge to bridge section with Mike, Shawn, and Ezra. Two canoes and two kayaks. I am loving the sun, sun, sun we are getting this week! We all portaged Campground Rapid. The water is at least a foot higher than it was on Monday and it is moving much more swiftly towards the log jam. I remembered my camera and took pictures today.
Beautiful day
Nasty log jam.
